Born in Muskegon, Michigan Laurel Pitynski obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters of Art Degree from Michigan State University. Upon relocation to Los Angeles, California she was hired as the senior Color and Trim Designer for Subaru of America. During this time Laurel was an active member of the Color and Marketing Group as well as attending many seminars, lectures and extensive clinics dealing with color directions, trends, applications and marketing. Responsible for the color choices for Subaru of America she traveled numerous times to Japan giving high ranking presentations in international color directions.
After relocating to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Chicago and eventually back to Detroit, Michigan she decided to return to her original passion of abstract art. Her pieces and installations are found throughout the metro Detroit area as well as extensively throughout Michigan, Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Denver, Boston and Toronto in both private and corporate collections.
Inspired by the properties and interaction of color, Laurel has found a way to bring a complex depth and saturated layering of color in a graphic fresh approach. Using reverse painting techniques on acrylic, her work is sculptural in content infused with a subtle energy.
